The Red Epic Dragon offers you exceptional dynamic range, up to 6K acquisition resolution, high frame rates and the flexibility of a RAW workflow. Shoot at up to 100 FPS at 6K, and even higher at lower resolutions.

With the latest Dragon sensor, Red has delivered improved dynamic range – particularly highlight handling – and a colour science designed to render skin tones more pleasing to those who have preferred the Arri Alexa over the previous generation MX sensor.

Two 128GB 1.8″ REDMAGs are included. Each card will hold approximately 20 minutes of 6K full-frame footage at a frame rate of 25fps and compression ratio of 8:1 (record times are dependent on frame rate, aspect ratio and compression ratio – all of which are user configurable).

You get two IDX Duo 150Wh batteries. Each battery typically powers the camera for about 2 hours. Additional batteries are available for hire.

Technical Specifications

The maximum frame rate supported by the Epic Dragon is dependent on capture resolution. Also, when you configure the camera to capture in less than 6K, a higher crop factor is introduced due to sensor windowing (when you decrease acquisition resolution, you are not using the full sensor).

Hire of Equipment:

The Hirer named on the Hire Receipt (“the Hirer”) agrees to hire from These Wild Eyes (“TWE”) the equipment described on the Hire Receipt (“the equipment”) for the period described and on payment of the hire fee and otherwise subject to these terms and conditions.

Equipment Condition and Use:

The Hirer acknowledges the equipment is in good clean condition and in full working order at the time of hiring. The Hirer agrees at all time to use and look after the equipment in a proper manner. The equipment shall be maintained and serviced and returned in good clean condition and full working order.

The Hirer will pay charges for the hire of the equipment at the rates on the Hire Receipt from the commencement of the hire period to the day the equipment is returned. Payment is due upon collection of the equipment on the pickup date and time specified in the Hire Receipt.

Late Returns:

The Hirer will return the equipment to TWE’s premises by the drop off time and date as specified in the Hire Receipt at the Hirer’s expense. The Hirer agrees to pay additional daily charges for late returns if the equipment is returned more than 20 minutes late and TWE is hereby authorised to debit such charges to the Hirer’s credit card.

Damage & Loss:

(1) Save as excepted in paragraph (2), if the Hirer fails to return the equipment to TWE at the end of the hire period or returns the equipment in a damaged state, then the Hirer is responsible for the full replacement or reinstatement costs of the equipment (whichever is the lesser amount) based on its then current purchase price and TWE is hereby authorised to debit such costs to the Hirer’s credit card.
(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply if the Hirer has agreed to pay the Damage Waiver Amount set out on the Hire Receipt, pays the Excess set out below and provides all documentation relating to the damage or loss as may be reasonably required by TWE including but not limited to any police report relating to the theft of the equipment and (if required by TWE and to its satisfaction) has taken out insurance over the equipment for its full replacement cost for the period of the hire noting TWE’s interest in the equipment. This paragraph does not apply if the loss or damage is caused by the negligent act or omission of the Hirer or the misuse or abuse of the equipment by the Hirer or if the equipment is stolen when not reasonably stored and secured by the Hirer. The Excess payable by the Hirer depends on the reinstatement or replacement cost of the claim and is as set out below:

Cost of Reinstatement / Replacement Excess
Under $500 $100
$501 – $1,000 $200
$1,001 – $1,500 $300
Over $1,500 $1,000

Interest and Costs:

If any monies owing to TWE are not paid when due, the Hirer will pay interest on any overdue amount from the due date until payment at the rate prescribed under s.2 of the Penalty Interest Rates Act 1983 plus 2%. If TWE incurs any legal costs recovering any amounts due to it by the Hirer, the Hirer will also pay all costs incurred by TWE on a solicitor/own client basis.

If TWE determines in its absolute discretion that the equipment when returned needs to be cleaned or serviced to return it to full working order, the Hirer agrees to pay any reasonable cleaning or servicing costs incurred and TWE is hereby authorised to debit those costs to the Hirer’s credit card.

In the event of a breakdown or failure of the equipment, the Hirer shall as soon as it is reasonably practical inform TWE and return the equipment to TWE. The Hirer agrees on no account will the Hirer attempt to repair the equipment without TWE’s express prior written agreement.

Use of Equipment:

The equipment is for the sole use of the Hirer and the Hirer will not allow any other person to use the equipment without TWE’s prior written consent. The Hirer agrees to use the equipment in accordance with all instructions provided with the equipment or by TWE. The Hirer acknowledges that no representation has been made by TWE as to the suitability of the equipment for the purposes of the Hirer and that the Hirer has made his or her own enquiries and is so satisfied.

All risks and liability in relation to the equipment passes to the Hirer during the period of hire to the fullest extent allowable at law. TWE shall not be liable for any loss of damage or consequential damage including indirect loss and/or expense including loss of profit, suffered by the Hirer or any other person as a result of the Hirer hiring the equipment from TWE. TWE’s liability, if any, for allegedly furnishing wrong or defective equipment to the Hirer is limited to a refund of the rental charged for the equipment. The Hirer hereby indemnifies TWE its officers and employees from any liability including any loss, damages, injuries, claims, demands and expenses of any kind or nature incurred arising from the Hirer’s hiring of the equipment.
